Dr. Marina Johnson is a UCLA / USC trained physician who has been in private practice for 30 years. While at UCLA medical school she was selected to be the Sam Goldwyn scholar. She is Board-Certified in Endocrinology & Metabolism and Internal Medicine.
Before attending medical school, she was first a practicing pharmacist and then went on to become Assistant Editor for the American Hospital Formulary Service, a drug reference book published by the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists.
Dr. Johnson’s practice arose from traditional mainstream medicine roots. However, Dr. Johnson is a very curious person and over the years her quest for the safest, and most effective therapies for her patients has led her to explore other therapies that she did not learn about in medical school. There is a definite role for traditional prescription medicines but many chronic milder conditions respond just as well to safer natural therapies. She believes in giving her patients the best of both …worlds. She has the utmost respect for the self-healing potential of the human body. In some instances, less is more, when it comes to achieving the best and safest response. She stresses patient education as a means to involve the patient in his own care. Working together as a team, we find the best solutions.
Physicians are only required to attend 12.5 hours of continuing medical education (CME) hours each year. Because Dr. Johnson attends educational programs in endocrinology, preventive and functional medicine, she often averages 80 hours of AMA PRA Category 1 continuing medical education each year.
Functional medicine approaches the patient by dealing with the cause of the disease, rather than just treating the symptoms of the disease. For example, if a nutritional or hormonal deficiency is diagnosed and treated, this may lead to resolution of a chronic illness like high blood pressure and eliminate the need for prescription drugs. Her strong background in internal medicine and in pharmacology, gives her the ability to evaluate your medication regimen. Dr. Johnson’s training in endocrinology provides a solid foundation for developing and prescribing sophisticated hormone protocols that are customized to each patient.
Dr. Johnson is particularly interested in menopause and has personally treated over 5,000 menopausal women. She has been prescribing “pharmaceutical” bioidentical hormones for over twenty years. She has expertise in andropause (male menopause), thyroid disorders, PMS and in adult growth hormone deficiency. She also offers therapy for prevention of diabetes mellitus, coronary artery disease, and hypertension.
Good health is no accident. We at the Institute of Endocrinology and Preventive Medicine have assembled some of the most advanced, comprehensive services available today and a responsive, compassionate staff who understands your needs.
You deserve nothing less.
