Dr. Unis completed a fellowship in minimally invasive hip and knee replacement under Dr. Richard Berger, a primary innovator of these procedures. He is one of a handful of surgeons in the country trained to do a new type of knee replacement surgery called kinematic alignment in which the normal mechanics of the knee are restored to the pre-arthritis state. He has also been extensively trained in muscle and tendon sparing anterior total hip replacement surgery and was the first to perform direct anterior total hip in New York City in 2005. Patients undergoing minimally invasive joint replacement enjoy a less painful recovery with faster return of function than those who undergo traditional surgery.
