Dr. Garabet Akoghlanian, MD

Renowned Infectious Disease specialist Dr. Garabet Akoghlanian brings outstanding medical skill and exceptional bedside manner to his work. Dr. Akoghlanian has obtained both an Internal Medicine board certification and an Infectious Disease board certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). These certifications are the culmination of an incredible amount of academic work; they quantify Dr. Akoghlanian’s already proven expertise in the two medical fields. Dr. Akoghlanian is licensed by both the Texas Medical Board and the Florida State Medical Board, which entitles him to devote himself to the world of Infectious Disease medicine in both states. Of course, that’s not all. He has a long list of academic accomplishments to his name. At some point, the good doctor also found time to attend and complete a course called Infectious Disease Transmission Models for Decision-Makers, at world-renowned Johns Hopkins University.
Dr. Akoghlanian’s fieldwork is well beyond a …singular clinical setting. He is an involved member of many professional infectious disease organizations, with the Infectious Disease Society of America being a prime example. When not working directly with patients, Dr. Akoghlanian volunteers his time and medical expertise to help those in underserved communities. But even with a full plate of professional and civic affairs, he still finds time to serve as the Medical Director of Infectious Disease and Antimicrobial Stewardship at Ochsner Lafayette General Health. His work there with the infectious disease team has been the basis for numerous awards and much-deserved recognition for research contributions.
