Dr. James Leslie Frank, MD

Dr. Frank is the Director of Surgical Oncology at the Saint Francis/Mount Sinai Regional Cancer Center. He is the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer Liaison Physician. In this role he oversees quality assurance and maintenance of accreditation requirements as an approved Cancer Program.
Most recently Dr. Frank has begun treating patients with liver and pancreatic cancer with the Cyberknife® primary radiosurgical system, an innovative and minimally invasive new treatment approach that offers new hope to patients who are not suitable candidates for surgery.
Prior to joining Saint Francis, Dr. Frank practiced at Baystate Medical Center as an Attending Surgical Oncologist and Associate Professor of Surgery at Tufts University School of Medicine.
Dr. Frank completed a residency in General Surgery at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh in 1988. Following that he completed a three-year postgraduate fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the Medical College of …Virginia in Richmond. There he developed additional expertise in cancers of the liver, pancreas and upper aerodigestive tract. During this fellowship his basic science research activities included studies in tumor immunology and cancer nutrition.
Dr. Frank has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and has given medical presentations at international conferences in the United States and Europe. He is currently a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology. He currently holds an academic appointment of Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Connecticut.
