Dr. Joan Elena Lanier

Dr. Joan E. Lanier received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1975 and Masters of Science in Endodontics in 1979 from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. She also attended post-graduate courses at Boston University. She is the first female graduate of the University of Michigan’s Endodontic program and is the Nation’s first African-American female Endodontist.
Dr. Lanier served as a lecturer and clinical instructor of Endodontics and Oral Diagnosis at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. She worked as the Endodontic Dental Consultant for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan for 13 years. Dr. Lanier is an independent medical examiner serving Genex from January 2000 till present and an independent medical examiner for Medical Evaluation Specialists in the 1990s to present. Dr. Lanier has been active in organized dentistry throughout her career. Dr. Lanier has served as a delegate and alternate delegate for the Michigan Dental Association and on the Ethics …Committee.  Dr. Lanier created and copyrighted the Smile Savers Program in 1989. The Smile Savers program has progressed into her copyrighted, trademarked, and patent pending program “It’s Really Me & Only Me ID” through her company ID International, LLC.
