Dr. John Michael Carney, MD

Dr. Carney is board certified in dermatology and fellowship trained in Mohs Micrographic Surgery, a specialized method of treating skin cancer. Utilizing Mohs surgery, Dr. Carney can achieve the highest cure rate while saving the maximum amount of normal skin. He has been performing Mohs surgery for 22 years, since his fellowship in 1985. Dr. Carney graduated Magna Cum Laude from Duke University. His twelve years of formal medical training began at Northwestern University, where he received the highest honors, Alpha Omega Alpha. He followed this with a General Surgery internship in Michigan and a three-year Dermatology residency in Cleveland. He extended his training with four fellowships: Laser Surgery at Harvard Medical School; Mohs Micrographic Surgery at the University of Tennessee Medical School; and two fellowships in Cosmetic Surgery in Arkansas. . He divides his time between private practices in Little Rock, Arkansas and his Mohs practice with Advancements in …Dermatology. He was first attracted to a medical career by observing the life of joyful service given by his father, John Francis Carney, M.D., an urologist. Dr. Carney is blessed with the gift of a helping profession and is thankful that Mohs surgery provides the opportunity to get to know so many wonderful patients. Dr. Carney has been voted Best of the Best by readers of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, AYs Best by AY magazine, Best of Arkansas by readers of the Arkansas Times, and received Best Doctors designation from the Best Doctors in America based on peer-to-peer reviews. Most recently, US News also listed Dr. Carney in the top 1% of dermatologists.
