Mark K. Urman, MD has been in practice since 1994. His practice is limited to consultative, preventive and non-invasive cardiology. He is a former Clinical Chief of the Division of Cardiology and Immediate-Past Medical Director of the Heart Center at Cedars-Sinai Heart Insstitute. He is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center. His main interests are clinical and consultative cardiology, coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, echocardiography and preventive cardiology.
Dr. Urman is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association as well as the American Society of Echocardiography and is board certified in cardiovascular diseases and echocardiography. He is also on the Medical Advisory Board of The Heart Foundation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, an organization involved in raising funds for cardiac research.
Dr. Urman has the distinction of being …named a Top Doctor by US News & World Report and Castle Connolly. He has been chosen by his peers in Southern California Super Doctors seen in Los Angeles Magazine consecutively since 2008. He has been chosen as one of “America’s Top Physicians” in Cardiology by the Consumer’s Research Council of America every year since 2003 and one of “America’s Top Cardiologists” in preventive cardiology in 2006 and echocardiography in 2007. In 1991, he was awarded the Ben Newman, MD Award at Cedars-Sinai in recognition for compassion and empathy toward his patients. Dr. Urman was recognized for his outstanding teaching of cardiology trainees at Cedars-Sinai in 2006/2007.
Dr. Urman has written many articles in peer-reviewed publications, including the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Radiology and Echocardiography. In addition to his published research articles, Dr. Urman has presented his research internationally and lectured extensively on hyperlipidemia, hypertension, heart failure and the pharmacological and lifestyle management of cardiovascular disease.
Dr. Urman received his bachelor’s and medical degrees from Northwestern University where he was enrolled in the Honors Program. A native Angelino (he was born at the old Cedars of Lebanon hospital), he was glad to return home to complete his internal medicine internship and residency at Cedars-Sinai and his cardiology fellowship at the UCLA-West Los Angeles Veteran’s Administration Medical Center.
