Overwiew

Dr. Grattan is the medical director of cardiac surgery at the Straub Heart Center. He joined Straub in 1991 and is board certified in thoracic (including cardiac surgery) surgery. His special interests include less-invasive chest surgery, including off-pump coronary bypass surgery; video-assisted thoracic surgery for treatment of lung disease and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating); and mitral valve repairs. Dr. Grattan received his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of California at San Francisco. He completed residencies in general surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital at Harvard, and in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, as well as heart-lung transplant at Stanford University Medical Center.
