Dr. Monica Hum is a board certified colorectal surgeon who has been practicing at Piedmont Hospital since 2003, after fellowship training at the Cleveland Clinic Florida and general surgery residency at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital, University Hospital of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Hum specializes in colon and rectal surgery, with particular interest in fecal incontinence and minimally invasive surgery, including da Vinci robotic surgery.
Dr. Hum introduced transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEMS), a minimally invasive surgical technique to remove polyps and early cancers into Atlanta in 2008. Dr. Hum was the first surgeon at Piedmont Hospital to perform a single incision laparoscopic (SILS) colon resection in 2010 and she was the first surgeon in Georgia to implant the InterStim sacral nerve stimulator for fecal incontinence in 2011. Dr. Hum is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. She was named to Atlanta magazine’s Top Doctors list in 2012, 2013, and 2014. She has also received the Patients’ Choice Award and recognized as on of Georgia’s Favorite Physicians from 2008-2013.
