Nicholas Avgeropoulos, MD, serves as co-director of the Neuro-Oncology Department at MD Anderson Cancer Center Orlando. Board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Avgeropoulos has been exclusively practicing neuro-oncology since completion of his fellowship training. Dr. Avgeropoulos residency training in neurology was at the Medical University of South Carolina where he was chief resident and subsequently completed neuroimmunology and neurovirology fellowships. Dr. Avgeropoulos continued fellowship cross-training in neuropathology at Yale University/Yale New Haven Hospital and was then accepted into the neuro-oncology fellowship training program at Harvard/Massachusetts General Hospital. He was named as the first Pappas Fellow of neuro-oncology during his second year of training at which time he also completed clinical research effectiveness courses at the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Avgeropoulos expertise includes the design and conduct of …clinical and translational research studies advocating the health and benefit of neuro-oncology patients of all ages. Prior to his current position, he served as program director of Neuro-Oncology and medical director of the Office of Research Administration at Florida Hospital and was adjunct faculty at Duke University and at Moffitt Cancer Center. Dr. Avgeropoulos has served as principal or co-investigator in many clinical trials and translational research projects. While at MD – Anderson Orlando, he has been the recipient of the Exemplary Physician Colleague Award, the Service Star Award and consistently listed as one of Orlando’s Best Doctors. Dr. Avgeropoulos also co-directs the Brain and Spine Tumor Support Group.
