Richard Owings, MD, PhD, is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in the specialty of psychiatry. He graduated from the University of Alabama with an M.A. and Ph.D. in psychology in 1976. He taught psychology at Alabama, Peabody, and Vanderbilt. He earned his M.D. from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 1984 and completed his residency at Massachusetts Mental Health Center and Harvard Medical School in 1988. He does exclusively outpatient psychiatry. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He grew up in the west, mid-west, and southeast, served in the military, and has been an Arkansan since age 20. He is married to Binnie Owings and has three children and two step children.
