In practice since 1985, Dr. Fischer is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is board certified in general surgery. Dr. Fischer’s expertise includes cancer surgeries, notably breast cancer, thyroid and parathyroid surgeries. He performs approximately 600 operations per year — about 12-15 per week.
Dr. Fischer has a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from University of Texas at Austin in Austin, Texas, and a medical degree from University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas. He completed his residency in general surgery at University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dr. Fischer’s post-residency experience includes serving as Chief of Surgery at Northeast Methodist Hospital in 1989 and 1992, being on the Board of Trustees from 1997-2000 and as Chief of Staff in 2003, he is a founding board member of the San Antonio Chapter of the Susan G.
