Dr. Baney grew up in Brevard County, living in Titusville until 1976 when his father (Dr. Richard Baney, Sr.) relocated to Melbourne and joined MIMA. After graduating from Melbourne High School in 1980, Dr Baney attended Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He earned his MD degree at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia and completed his internship in Internal Medicine at the Naval Hospital, San Diego. In San Diego he met his wonderful wife, the former Ms. Anne Corey. They were married on February 17, 1990 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
After completing training as a Naval Flight Surgeon, Dr. Baney was assigned to Carrier Air Wing Nine, deploying on the USS Nimitz (CVN-68), and served in the Gulf War (Operation Desert Sweep). In 1992 he started his Internal Medicine residency at the Naval Hospital San Diego, and Anne gave birth to their first child, Victoria Anne. In 1994 the Navy relocated the Baneys to Pensacola, Florida, where Dr. Baney provided …Internal Medicine consultation to the US Armed Forces for aerospace medicine-related issues. Along came Caroline Lee, their second daughter.
In August 1996, Dr. Baney left the Navy to join MIMA, and in 1999 was elected to the MIMA Board of Directors. He also serves as Chairperson of the Quality Improvement and Managed Care Committees, and was selected as a member of both the Board of Directors and the Physician Advisory Committee of Health First Health Plans. Their third child, Jackson Corey, was born in 1998.
In 2003 Dr. Baney became the Assistant Medical Director of MIMA, and in late 2009 took the lead in MIMA’s compliance program. He is medical director for Kindred Hospital, Consulate Rehabilitation Facility, and Gentiva Home Health Care. In 2009 he completed his MBA from George Washington University. Dr. Baney achieved recognition in 2010 for the delivery of Quality Diabetes Care by NCQA (the National Committee for Quality Assurance).
Dr Baney enjoys most his wonderful family, and also likes fishing, running and rowing.
