Dr. Schlechter is a native of Western Pennsylvania and graduated from Johns Hopkins University and The Chicago Medical School. He trained in General Surgery at Tulane University in New Orleans and in Pediatric Surgery at McGill University/The Montreal Childrens Hospital. After completing his training he moved to Austin in 1984. He is board certified in General Surgery and Pediatric Surgery. Dr. Schlechter has been President of Childrens Hospital of Austin Medical Staff and Setons Network Medical Staff, as well as Chief of Trauma at Childrens Hospital. He is a member of many state and national professional societies. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Pediatric Surgical Association. His surgical interests include inguinal hernias, neonatal surgery and minimally invasive surgery.
