Dr. Sally Knox is a breast cancer surgeon at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas Texas. She has consulted with and treated over seventeen thousand women. She serves on the teaching staff at Baylor Medical Center and is on staff at Mary Shiels Hospital. A graduate of SMU, The University of Texas Medical Center at Galveston, and a surgical breast oncology fellowship at Baylor, Sally has been in private practice since 1986.
Early in her practice she became involved in helping women find resources and support during their journey through breast cancer. A result of that driven …commitment was The Bridge, a non- profit organization specifically created to assist under-insured women who find themselves battling this disease. It was founded by Dr. Knox and Kathy LaTour, a breast cancer survivor and author. Serving as medical director, Dr. Knox recruited breast cancer survivors to set up and oversee the organization, and physicians to provide medical services %u2013 all on a volunteer basis. In 1996 she stepped down as medical director but continues to volunteer her services as a surgeon. In the fourteen years since The Bridge opened, it has grown in size and staffing and has treated thousands of women, many of them for breast cancer.
In recognition of her medical dedication and excellence, Dr. Knox has received the Maura Award from The Women%u2019s Center of Dallas, The Unsung Hero Award from Ladies Home Journal (Nov 2000), and the %u201CWomen of Spirit%u201D award from the American Jewish Congress. She has been featured in articles for Good Housekeeping and The Dallas Morning News, has been involved in medical missions and training spiritual leaders in the former Soviet Union, has authored several publications on breast cancer and is a well-known speaker on surgical oncology and breast cancer. She has written a book which was released in 2004 entitled %u201CThe Breast Cancer Care Book: A Survival Guide for Patients and Loved Ones, which integrates the latest medical knowledge with information on emotional help, spiritual strength and relational supports. In her remaining spare time, Dr. Knox volunteers as a musician and teacher at her church, and enjoys reading, hiking and bicycling.
She is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, American Society for the Study of Breast Disease, National Alliance of Breast Cancer Organizations, Association of Women Surgeons, Christian Medical and Dental Associations, Dallas County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association, American Medical Association and American College of Surgeons.
