Dr. Samir Patel was born and raised in New York City. He attended the Bronx High School of Science, where he was a member of the fencing team. A graduate of Cornell University with a degree in biochemistry, Dr. Patel studied medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine where he graduated with honors. Dr. Patel did his residency in general surgery at State University of New York at Brooklyn. After completing his residency, he did a fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopy and Bariatric Surgery at the Staten Island University Hospital under the tutelage of George Ferzli, M.D. world-renowned laparoscopic surgeon. Dr. Samir Patel has published several articles about laparoscopy and bariatric surgery. He is currently a member of the Society of the American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), American Society of Bariatric Surgery (ASBS), Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, American College of Surgeons (ACS), and the American Medical Association (AMA).
