Dr. Samoon Ahmad, MD

Samoon Ahmad, MD, is Clinical Associate Professor in Psychiatry and Co-Director of the Division of Continuing Medical Education in the Department of Psychiatry at the New York University School of Medicine in New York, New York. He also serves as Unit Chief of 18 North, the acute inpatient unit at Bellevue Hospital in the New York University Langone Medical Center. Dr. Ahmad’s additional academic involvement includes his work as Program Director for the Comprehensive Review of Practice Guidelines for the Treatment of Psychiatric Disorders as well as Co-Director for the Grand Rounds Curriculum Committee.
Dr. Ahmad earned his medical degree from Allama Iqbal Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan, where he trained in Internal Medicine, General Surgery, and Cardiology. He completed a residency in Psychiatry at the New York University Medical Center/Bellevue Hospital, serving as Chief Resident in his final year. Dr. Ahmad is a member of the American Medical Association, Royal College of …Psychiatrists, U.K, the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, the Bellevue Psychiatric Society, and a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and he holds licenses in both New York and Connecticut. In addition, Dr. Ahmad lectures frequently on various treatment options for mood disorders, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia, and the role of Religion and Psychiatry through his award winning movie “The Wrath of God; A Faith Based Survival Paradigm.” He is also the Consulting Editor to the “CKaplan and Sadock’s Concise Textbook of Clinical Psychiatry” Contributing Editor to the “CKaplan and Sadock’s Pocket Handbook of Clinical Psychiatry”, and Kaplan and Sadock’s Concise Textbook of Child Psychiatry (First Edition).
