Dr. Stanley Lawrence Liauw, MD

Dr. Stanley Liauw specializes in genitourinary and gastrointestinal cancers. He has helped build the clinical and research programs for effective prostate cancer treatment at the University of Chicago Medical Center.Dr. Liauw’s research interests include prostate cancer outcomes after dose-escalated external beam radiation therapy or brachytherapy, modeling of toxicity after radiation therapy, the role of adjuvant or salvage radiation therapy after prostatectomy, quality of life issues post-treatment, and the study of mechanisms of radiation resistance. In gastrointestinal malignancies, his ongoing research interests include the use of a radio-inducible adenovirus with a combined chemotherapy and radiation therapy approach for pancreatic cancer, the incorporation of targeted therapy for preoperative treatment of rectal cancer, and the use of radiation therapy for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma prior to living donor transplant. Dr. Liauw has been the recipient of several research …and training awards. He has presented his work at national scientific meetings, and has published manuscripts in a variety of medical journals.
