Dr. Susan B. Kesmodel, MD

Dr. Kesmodel is a surgical oncologist and board-certified general surgeon at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. She is also a professor of surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She earned her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine in Philadelphia and completed her fellowship training in surgical oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. At Sylvester, Dr. Kesmodel works as part of a multidisciplinary team of breast cancer experts. She is the Director of Breast Surgical Oncology and co-leader of the Breast Site Disease Group. Dr. Kesmodel came to Miami 6 years ago to develop the Breast Surgery Program at the University of Miami with the goal of providing all women in Miami-Dade and South Florida with access to the latest surgical techniques for management of breast cancer. Her clinical and research interests are in optimizing local regional therapy, de-escalation of axillary surgery, reducing lymphedema, and …improving aesthetic breast outcomes. Dr. Kesmodel also works with multiple basic scientists at Sylvester who are evaluating breast cancer resistance with the goal of developing new treatments and improving quality of life for breast cancer patients.
