Dr. Thomas Medrick Sweeney, MD

Dr. Sweeney was born and raised in Lowell, Massachusetts. Graduated magna cum laude from the University of Massachusetts with a B.S. in Wildlife Biology in 1980. He completed a M.S. degree in Wildlife Biology at Virginia Tech. He received his medical degree from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville in 1989, along with a Ph.D. in Anatomy. He subsequently completed a research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. He completed his internship and residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Virginia in 1996. This was followed by a one year followship at The Spine Center at the University of Virginia, one of the busiest in the United States, in the operative and nonoperative treatment of Spinal Disorders, including degenerative, traumatic, metabolic, and tumors of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. He has been published extensively, including new methods on bone healing, has lectured extensively on disorders of the spine, and has …advanced training in reconstructive surgery of the spine.
