Dr. Todd Stewart is a Neurological Surgeon focusing exclusively on spinal surgery. He left academia to open his current practice at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis, MO in order to focus 100% of his efforts on patient care.
Dr. Stewart graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington in Seattle prior to entering medical school at that same institution. He performed his General Surgery Internship and Neurosurgical Residency training at Washinngton University in St. Louis.
Dr. Stewart did a unique combined Orthopedic and Neurosurgical Spine Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation before returning to Washington University in St. Louis to join the faculty. Dr. Stewart was on faculty at Washington University for 10 years where he was an Associate Professor of Neurological and Orthopedic Surgery. During this time, he worked at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, a level 1 trauma center and gained great experience in complex trauma, tumor and …degenerative cases of the spine. In addition to his clinical duties, he perfomed research, taught residents and fellows, and lectured nationally and internationally. He has helped to design multiple spinal implants that are in use today.
Dr. Stewart has now moved into private practice to devote all of his time to patient care. He performs all aspects of spinal surgery, however he has a particular interest in cervical spine (neck) surgery for radiculopathy (pinched nerve), myelopathy (pinched spinal cord) and kyphosis (abnormal alignment of the neck). He also has an interest in spondylolisthesis and radiculopathy of the lumbar spine. He uses minimally invasive approaches where appropriate.
Dr. Stewart continues to use novel 3d computer modeling of the spine as an educational tool for patients, doctors, and nursing staff. He has reprogrammed a first person shooter video game engine to demonstrate interactive spinal anatomy and surgical technique to patients.
