Barry K. Hull, M.D., F.A.A.F.P. completed his undergraduate education at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana in 1984, and received his medical education at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana. He served his internship and residency in Family Medicine at Community Hospitals of Indiana, also in Indianapolis. There he served as Chief Resident and was awarded the Jane R. Richter memorial award for outstanding resident teacher. A lifelong Hoosier, he started a new private practice in the inner city of Indianapolis in 1991 providing medical care in a needy area of the city. He also served as a volunteer physician in the Gennesaret Free Clinic administering free medical care to the homeless of the city.
Answering a long desire to experience life in another area of the country, Dr. Hull moved to Fayette County in June of 1999 along with his wife and two daughters. Dr. Hull chose to practice Family Medicine believing that he possessed those qualities …that facilitate the provision of quality, thorough healthcare for all members of the family. Dr. Hull is a board certified Family Physician and is a Diplomat of the American Board of Family Medicine. He has also achieved the designation as a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He believes strongly in the importance of Preventative Healthcare. He has extensive experience in Preventive Cardiology, Diabetology, Pediatrics, Gynecology, Dermatology, and all other aspects of general Family Medicine.
Dr. Hull “sub specializes” in Lipidology and Metabolic Disorders. This is a focus on the prevention and treatment of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. He is one of only a few board-certified lipid (cholesterol) experts in the Atlanta Metro area with his designation as Diplomat of the American Board of Clinical Lipidology. He is also certified as a “Master Psychopharmacologist” by the Neuroscience Education Institute. This designation reflects his expertise in managing medications (both the effects and side effects) used to treat the conditions of depression, anxiety, ADD/ADHD, bipolar, and other mental health conditions.
Dr. Hull also has a special interests in menopausal medicine (including the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis), Wilderness Medicine (especially High Altitude Medicine), Travel Medicine, and a burgeoning interest in Missionary Medicine. Dr. Hull has lectured extensively throughout the eastern United States educating physicians and other health care providers in many of these areas of medicine.
