Dr. Weatherford began his practice with Coastal Surgery Specialists in 1997. In the last seven years, he has performed over 3000 vascular/endovascular procedures including aortic endografts, arterial angioplasty, stent and bypass surgery, and the treatment of venous diseases. These techniques are used for the treatment of diseases of the carotid artery, aorta, and arteries and veins of the legs and arms. Specific disease groups include patients suffering from and/or at risk for stroke, abdominal aortic aneurysms, and extremity arterial blockage causing pain with walking. Additionally, he employs minimally invasive office based techniques for venous diseases of the legs. Dr. Weatherford founded the Endovascular Surgery Center, a division of Coastal Surgery Specialists, and serves as Medical Director. The Center employs full time vascular surgeons dedicated to Peripheral Arterial Disease management, wound care, vein care, and dialysis access. Dr. Weatherford completed his undergraduate studies at the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina, graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. In 1989, he received his Doctorate of Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina. Upon completion of medical school, Dr. Weatherford performed his general surgery internship and residency with Greenville Hospital System in Greenville, South Carolina. After a year of private practice, he completed a fellowship in vascular/endovascular surgery at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. He has professional appointments as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery for the Greenville Hospital System, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
