Frederick Giberson, M.D., FACS, is a member of Christiana Care’s Trauma/Critical Care Services and program director of the General Surgery Residency Program. He received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Robert Wood Johnson School. His general surgical residency was at Christiana Care, followed by a fellowship in critical care and traumatology at the University of Maryland’s Institute for Emergency Medical Services System in Baltimore.
Dr. Giberson is an assistant clinical professor of surgery at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a clinical preceptor at the University of Pennsylvania, and is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine. He was recognized as Trauma Teaching Attending Surgeon of the Year, five years in row (1998-2002).
Dr. Giberson is board-certified in general surgery with …added qualifications in surgical critical care. He is a certified instructor and course director for advanced trauma life support as well as a certified instructor for advanced hazmat life support and the Fundamental Critical Care Skills course. He serves on numerous Christiana Care Committees concerning medical/surgical education and critical care. He has served as a clinical investigator on at least 20 multicenter research studies and has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals. He is a regular presenter in his specialty at both the local and national level.
Dr. Giberson’s special interests include the study of disaster medicine and management of patients who suffer severe brain injury, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and pancreatitis.
