Prior to joining ACHRI in 2008, Dr. Richter completed complete a 2-year fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology at Cincinnati Childrens Hospital where he learned complex pediatric airway management and reconstruction, general pediatric otolaryngology, vascular anomalies, and pediatric otology. Dr. Richter completed his residency training in otolaryngology at UAMS in 2006. Dr. Richter has multiple research interests, including 1) pathophysiology and management of laryngomalacia; 2) airway remodeling and mucosal wound healing; 3) pathogenesis and prevention of subglottic stenosis; 4) identifying genetic and molecular determinants of vascular anomalies; 5) exploring potential molecular pharmacotherapeutic targets for vascular anomalies; and 6) role of chemotherapy in management of vascular malformations and problematic hemangiomas. Recently Dr. Richter has acquired and established laboratory space at ACHRI to conduct research. Laboratory equipment and maintenance has been supported by …a prior foundation dedicated to the investigation of vascular anomalies. He is now poised to begin the first step in translating potential therapies from bench to bedside for hemangiomas and vascular malformations. These activities include developing animal models for preliminary investigation and evaluation of potential therapies and establishing structure in their application. As a head and neck surgeon with the Vascular Anomalies Center at UAMS and ACH, Dr. Richter is collaborating with the groups physicians and ancillary staff to discover cures for simple, problematic, and aggressive vascular anomalies. He will conduct similar work identifying new approaches to treating subglottic stenosis.
