Before opening The Breast Place in December 2011, Dr Beatty was a team member at Cancer Specialists of Charleston. She became interested in breast diagnosis and treatment while Lieutenant Commander serving the United States Navy as general surgeon and Director of the Breast Clinic at the Charleston Naval Hospital from 2005-2009. She served in Iraq in 2007 as Marine Corps Forward with a Surgical Shock Trauma Unit. She has worked in private practice in Charleston since 2008. In 2011, Dr Beatty fulfilled her vision for a surgical practice devoted to breast cancer research, treatment and education by opening The Breast Place. A tireless advocate, she has been involved in changing state Medicaid policy after Raymond Johnson, her 26-yo male patient, was denied coverage for treatment based on gender. She performs advanced breast evaluations for the Barrier Island Free Clinic and assists in navigating patients to free care throughout the Lowcountry, as well as participating in local breast …cancer awareness education and mammogram events. She is currently the only physician at Trident Hospital performing brachytherapy for her patients. Dr. Beatty attended Kansas City University of Medicine and Bioscience, and completed her residency at Ohio University and Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital, as well as at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center/Horizon. Dr Jennifer Beatty is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery and has recently completed and been certified for an international course in oncoplastic surgery. She currently has privileges at Roper St Francis, East Cooper Regional Medical Center, and Trident Health System. She is licensed in South Carolina and is an active member of the American Society of Breast Surgery and the American Society of Breast Disease, as well as a fellow with the American College of Surgery. Jenn Beatty is both chairman and an active member of the Tissue Pathology and Transfusions Committee, and the Trident Cancer Committee, served as Director of Surgical Services at the Charleston Naval Hospital Charleston for three years, and was the chairman of the Breast Health Committee in 2007. Deeply committed to breast research and treatment, she serves with the Susan G Komen Foundation of the Lowcountry, and is an active member of the state Tumor Board.
