Dr. Hanson’s medical interests include inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), chronic liver disease (including liver transplantation), and clinical research.
He is a fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA). He currently serves as chairman of the Charlotte Mission Committee of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) and is on the board of directors for the Carolinas Chapter. A firm believer in education and the importance of research, Dr. Hanson is also a member of the Patient Education Committee for CCFA National and of the CCFA Clinical Research Alliance. He is also the former president of the medical staff at Carolinas Medical Center.
Dr. Hanson is an active member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), the Mecklenburg County Medical Society (MCMS), the North Carolina Medical Society (NCMS), and the North Carolina Society of …Gastroenterology (NCSG).
As a native of St. Louis, Dr. Hanson is a big Cardinals fan. He and his wife have four adult children and two grandchildren. In his free time, Dr. Hanson enjoys traveling and playing golf.
