Growing up, Dr. Sytsma learned from his parents the ethic of hard work, treating others with honesty and respect, and to live a purposeful life. His love of biology and science, working with his hands, and helping others at their point of need are the passions which led Dr. Sytsma into medicine and orthopedic surgery. His special interests include treating sports injuries, both through surgical and non-surgical treatments, as well as complex shoulder injuries and shoulder replacement surgery. Dr. Sytsma is also the head orthopedic physician for WMU Athletics and medical director of sports medicine at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Dr. Systma credits his “amazing wife” for keeping him accountable, and enjoys spending time with their four children. He also enjoys various sporting activities, landscaping and gardening. Dr. Sytsma volunteers at local and regional high school sporting events, local organizations and his church. My goal as an orthopedic surgeon is to listen to each …individual patient’s story and combine it with a thorough clinical exam to create a personalized treatment plan. I strive to apply the most current surgical techniques and technology backed by the best available scientific evidence. In that way, each patient will be treated in the same way that I want to be treated, and how I would want my family members to be treated.
