Dr. Pam R. Taub, MD, FACC, FASPC, a Professor of Medicine at UC San Diego’s School of Medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, plays a pivotal role as the Founding Director of the Step Family Foundation Cardiac Rehabilitation and Wellness Center. She has been instrumental in the establishment and management of the center, overseeing all aspects of its creation. In her clinical practice, Dr. Taub primarily focuses on preventive cardiology, lipidology, and women’s cardiovascular health, combining her extensive experience in clinical trials with active participation in clinical and translational research. Her research is notable for its exploration of the effects of behavioral, technological, and pharmacological strategies on cardiometabolic diseases.
Dr. Taub is a highly regarded researcher, receiving federal funding from prestigious organizations such as the National Institutes of Health, where she is a Principal Investigator for an R01 grant, as well as from the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, and the American Heart Association. Her current research endeavors include studying the benefits of daily fasting on cardiometabolic parameters and mitochondrial function, identifying biomarkers for cardiovascular risk stratification, evaluating the efficacy of wearable/mobile devices in enhancing cardiovascular outcomes, and investigating the effects of epicatechin, a compound found in dark chocolate, on mitochondrial function, cellular bioenergetics, and exercise capacity.
