MOHS micrographic surgery is generally indicated for selected basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas. These would include some primary tumors which are large, have indistinct clinical margins, are in high risk areas for recurrence (e.g. crease areas about nose and ears, scalp), show an aggressive growth pattern, or are located in areas where its tissue sparing feature is desirable. It is also indicated for many recurrent tumors with any of these features.
