Richard Banks, MD, was born into a military family at Ft. Ord, California. As is typical of military families, he was raised in multiple locations, including Japan and Germany. However, his roots are in Springfield, MO. He graduated from Southwest Missouri State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, and from the University of Iowa Medical School in Iowa City, IA. His pediatric internship and residency were done at the William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, TX. Following residency, he was assigned for four years to Ft. Leonard Wood General Hospital in Missouri. He completed a Pediatric Endocrinology fellowship at Shands Teaching Hospital, University of Florida. Subsequently, he spent three years at William Beaumont AMC, El Paso, TX, and nine years at Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, HI, as the Chief, Pediatric Endocrinology. Upon retirement from the service after 24 years, Dr. Banks joined the Medical Education Program at Arnold Palmer …Hospital for Children, where he holds a clinical faculty appointment and is involved in resident education. He is board certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Endocrinology. He is a member of the Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society, the Endocrine Society, the American Diabetes Association, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and the Obesity Society. He is on the board of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in Orlando.
