The pain management field provides Dr. Sabrina Shue with two important opportunities — the ability to develop long term physician-patient relationships while also allowing her to perform procedures requiring advanced technical skills. Dr. Shue joined the National Spine and Pain Centers in September 2021. She previously served as chief of the Department of Pain Management at White Plains Hospital Center, chief of Department of Anesthesia at Meadowbrook Endoscopy Center and a sub-investigator at Drug Trials America. Graduating in only three years with highest honors, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry with a minor in biology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The university’s School of Medicine was the site for her medical degree studies. Dr. Shue completed a transitional internship at MetroWest Medical Center and an anesthesiology residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, both in Massachusetts associated with Harvard University. A …fellowship in pain management followed at Columbia University in New York City. When putting together an individualized treatment plan, Dr. Shue believes medication therapy has a place when the tool is used with caution. “I encourage all my patients to minimize medication use,” she said. “In addition to interventional pain management procedures, I encourage them to use exercise, lifestyle optimization and behavior modification to manage their pain.” She is driven in her work when patients acknowledge her efforts in contributing to the positive changes they are experiencing. Seeing patients smile and feel better again means everything to her. “Patient-centered care is the most important aspect of medicine,” she says. When not seeing patients, Dr. Shue can be founding traveling to new destinations and old favorites.
