Dr. Shazia Zafar, MD

Shazia Zafar, M.D., is board certified in internal medicine and specializes in adult hematology- oncology, which includes treating and testing various types of cancers and conducting bone marrow biopsies and aspirations.
Dr. Zafar graduated with honors and received her M.D. degree in 1999 from Rawalpindi Medical College. After completing her Doctor of Medicine, she went on to finish her internship at Texas Tech University Health Science Center at Amarillo, Department of Internal Medicine. She then completed her residency at Creighton University Medical Center, Department of Internal Medicine in Omaha, NE and has a fellowship in Hematology-Oncology from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
She has extensive research experience at the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. She also worked in the Cancer Center at Creighton University and at the Braman Family Breast Cancer Institute at the University of Miami Miller …School of Medicine.
Dr. Zafar holds many affiliations which, include but are not limited to, the following: American College of Physician, member of Eye Donor Organization, American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
Dr. Zafar has co-authored many publications and abstracts pertaining to various types of cancers as well as being involved with international presentations. She speaks Urdu and Punjabi (Indian and Pakistani languages) fluently. Dr. Zafar has worked voluntarily on developing new screening markers and therapies for the treatment of breast and prostate cancers at Texas Medical Center and Baylor College of Medicine.
