Tomas Martin, MD, is a professor of surgery in the division of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine, as well as the director of the UF Health Aortic Disease Center. Dr. Martin earned his medical degree from The University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He completed his general surgery and vascular surgery residencies at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, followed by a thoracic and cardiovascular surgical residency at UF. Board-certified in thoracic surgery, his clinical interests span the field of surgical heart and vascular care, with a specific focus on aortic aneurysms and dissections, valve surgery and complex adult cardiac surgery, including caring for patients who need revisional operations. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Cardiology, and holds membership in numerous professional organizations, including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the Florida Society of Thoracic …Cardiovascular Surgery. He has authored or co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. Dr. Martin is active in helping to provide medical and surgical care to people in underserved regions of the world. Through his outreach efforts, he has worked in the Philippines, Haiti, Gabon, Ghana, Cameroon and the Dominican Republic.
