Dr. Victor Y. Chang was born in Princeton, New Jersey, and grew up in Tampa, Florida. He received his bachelor’s degree from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Following college, he dedicated two years as a professional photographer and writer, documenting the admirable work of nonprofit medical clinics in Washington, DC. Afterwards, he started his formal medical training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and received his medical degree in 2006. Also at Baylor, Dr. Chang completed his internal medicine internship, followed by ophthalmology residency at the Cullen Eye Institute, where he had the privilege of serving as Chief Resident. To offer more to his patients, Dr. Chang completed a fellowship in Cornea and External Diseases, and Refractive Surgery at the Duke University Eye Center. Dr. Chang has contributed to widely circulated journals on topics such as ocular herpetic diseases, advanced intraocular lens power calculations, prevention of …endophthalmitis following intraocular surgery, and the management of dry eye syndrome.Dr. Chang is presently active in professional memberships such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the American Medical Association, and the Baylor Eye Alumni. His honors and awards during his academic career include The Duke Chronicle Scholarship for Editors, Sclafani Memorial Scholarship Award for Journalistic Excellence and Charismatic Leadership, Milton Boniuk and Lions Eye Bank Research Grant Recipient, Goar Resident Research Award Finalist, Ophthalmology Times Resident Writer’s Award Program Nominee, Chief Resident for Cullen Eye Institute, and Best Fellow Teacher Award chosen by ophthalmic technician trainees at Duke.Dr. Chang believes in serving the community and has a strong interest in inspiring the younger generations. He has had the privilege of being a Big Brother to children living with chronic illnesses, formerly being a clinical volunteer and mentor at the Houston Outreach Medicine, Education, and Social Services (HOMES), and currently volunteering at health education and screening initiatives for our veterans and youth.When outside of the clinic, Dr. Chang enjoys spending quality time with his wife Elaine, who is also an ophthalmologist, and his twin children. His interests include photography, culinary arts, viticulture, home optimization, and trail and road cycling.As a physician partner at Houston Eye Associates, Dr. Chang practices comprehensive ophthalmology and also offers his expertise in the subspecialty of Cornea and External Diseases. He strives to provide his patients with the highest quality of care and looks forward to seeing you and your family at our Conroe and The Woodlands locations.
