Dr. Pujol, who was born in Cuba and raised in Puerto Rico, completed his pre-medical education at Universidad Del Sagrado Corazon in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. He received his medical degree from Universidad Del Este Medical School in the Dominican Republic. After a flexible internship (surgery, pediatrics, OB/GYN, etc.) at Hospital Regional de Caguas in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Dr. Pujol decided to pursue internal medicine as his specialty. “I loved the interaction with adults. Internal medicine offered a broader scope of pathologies to treat and that really interested me,” says Dr. Pujol. After completing his residency at Veterans Administration/University Hospital in Rio Piedras as well as his active military service, Dr. Pujols spent two years stationed at Valdosta, Georgia, as an internal medicine staff physician for the United States Air Force where he was recognized for Outstanding Physician Service and honorably discharged as Captain. He was then recruited to in Alice, Texas, …where his solo practice soon grew to include six specialists in a multidisciplinary group practice. At the same time he was appointed to a number of positions at Alice Regional Hospital and later at Christus Spohn Hospital. In 2005, Dr. Pujol started an IPC group in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he and eventually a group of 12 hospitalists practiced with Christus Spohn Health System.
Now with Northeast Internal Medical Associates (NIMA) in San Antonio, Texas, Dr. Pujol and his wife are closer to their children who are studying at local universities. Dr. Pujol is excited to once again to see patients in the clinic as well as at Northeast Methodist Hospital.
