Dr. Matthew Weiner is a leading voice in weight loss and bariatric surgery, known for his down-to-earth, forward-thinking, and evidence-based approach to managing weight. He earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan and completed his surgical residency at New York University Hospital. After practicing in suburban Detroit for 12 years, he made Tucson his home in 2019 and launched Pound of Cure Weight Loss in 2023, Tucson’s premiere comprehensive weight loss center.
Dr. Weiner and the Pound of Cure Weight Loss team believe in tailoring weight management strategies to fit each individual, challenging the misconception that willpower alone determines weight. They focus on proven methods to lower the body’s metabolic set point—the weight our bodies naturally defend. Pound of Cure integrates personalized nutritional counseling, Dr. Weiner’s acclaimed Metabolic Reset Diet, cognitive behavioral therapy, online education, use of weight loss medications like GLP-1 medications …(Ozempic, Zepbound, Wegovy, Mounjaro), and proven surgical techniques when appropriate.
Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Weiner is a published author with three books on bariatric surgery and weight loss and even a bariatric cookbook. He also co-hosts the Pound of Cure Weight Loss Podcast with Zoe Schroeder, Pound of Cure’s in-house Registered Dietitian, where they share practical insights and guidance on navigating the weight loss space.
In his downtime, Dr. Weiner enjoys playing tennis and cherishes time with his family—including his wife, his two daughters, and his dog, Maizey. Dr. Matthew Weiner and the Pound of Cure Weight Loss team are dedicated to helping individuals achieve sustainable weight loss through compassionate care, expertise grounded in research, and a friendly, realistic approach.
