Dr. Michael Joyce graduated from the Washington University School of Medicine in 1987, where he earned his medical degree. From July 1988 to June 1990, he completed a Post-Doctorate Fellowship in the Orthopaedic Research Unit at the Arthritis Institute (NIAMS) of the National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Joyce finished his Orthopaedic residency in June 1994 at Washington University/Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He then trained under Dr. James Andrews and Dr. William Clancy at the world-renowned American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, AL. From 1995 to 2001, Dr. Joyce was a consultant at Genetics Institute, Inc. in Cambridge, MA, studying the application of genetically engineered proteins on tendon, ligament and bone healing.
Dr. Joyce has been in private practice since August 1995, and he opened his own practice in Glastonbury, CT in December 2004. At that time, he joined the staff of Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center. He is a member of the American Academy of …Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the Connecticut Orthopaedic Society. In addition, Dr. Joyce is the Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Connecticut.
Dr. Joyce is an Orthopaedic Consultant and team physician for the UConn Athletic Department, including the men’s and women’s basketball teams, the football team and the soccer team. He is also a team physician for the New Britain Rock Cats baseball team (a division of the Minnesota Twins), as well as an Orthopaedic Consultant to the Connecticut Sun.
Dr. Joyce resides in Glastonbury with his wife, Pam, and their four sons.
