Seek help sooner. My journey with migraines began in high school, although I wasn't officially diagnosed until college. During my sophomore year of high school, I started experiencing symptoms, but I kept it a secret. Despite having a supportive and close-knit family, I didn't want to burden them with my health issues. For some strange reason, I felt ashamed of the invisible pain I was going through.

At that time, I didn't understand the connection between migraines and mental health. However, looking back, I can draw parallels from my own experiences. Being an active and high-achieving individual, it was difficult for me to accept that I couldn't maintain my usual pace when migraines struck. This often led to feelings of depression and anxiety, adding to the mental toll that migraines were taking on me.

To make matters worse, my migraines seemed to have a terrible timing. They would frequently strike after classes, work hours, or even on weekends. Waking up with a migraine attack on a Saturday morning was demoralizing, and it affected my ability to enjoy vacations and retreats. The unpredictability of my symptoms also added to my anxiety, as I constantly worried about when the next attack would come and felt helpless in controlling them.
